Minute With Mallon: The Front Row Advantage!
Welcome to Minute with Mallon!
Something I Taught:
I’ve had the opportunity to do well over 3000 full-day and part day seminars and talks for audiences in my life, and I can tell you this with complete confidence… there is a huge difference between the people who sit on the front rows—and everyone else.
A psychology professor named Russell Gruber actually studied this and found something simple but powerful: the closer you are to the front, the fewer distractions you have. The further back you go, the more your focus gets pulled in every direction.
I’ve experienced this myself. When I sit in the middle or the back, I’m noticing everything—the guy’s bald spot, someone’s hair, people shifting around—and before I know it, I’ve missed part of what actually matters. But when I’m on the front row, I’m locked in, fully engaged, thinking better and getting lot more out of it.
I had a client a while back who was going to a major industry conference. Smart guy, high potential, but he tended to sit in the back, take a few notes, and leave with “a couple good ideas.” I challenged him before the event: “This time, I want you on one of the first three rows every session. No exceptions.”
He kind of laughed… but he did it.
A week later, we were on a call, and he said, “That was one of the best conferences I’ve ever been to.” He ended up asking two questions during sessions, had three separate conversations with speakers afterward, and one of those turned into a relationship that opened a real business opportunity for him. Same conference. Same content. Completely different result.
That’s the power of putting yourself in position.
This isn’t just about where you sit—it’s about how you show up. Front-row people engage. They focus. They get more because they give more attention.
So here’s what I want you to do. The very next time you walk into a meeting, a conference, a church service, or any environment where you want to grow… go to the front. Don’t hesitate. Don’t overthink it. Just move.
And here’s the real challenge… don’t just do it once. Do it every time for the next several months when the opportunity comes up and see what changes in your focus, your learning, and your opportunities.
If you’re serious about growing, stop sitting in the back.
Go to the front.
Something to Ponder:
"A man who has committed a mistake and doesn't correct it, is committing another mistake."

Something I Learned:
In the book, The ABC Model Breakthrough, Dan Sullivan gives a great way of thinking about the irritations we face in our lives. Here's Dan:
As soon as you tell the truth to yourself that an activity is irritating, the only thing you can do to improve things is to eliminate it.
I always have a list of things that irritate me, but I know there’s a time limit on everything on that list. If it’s on the list, it has a death sentence. It’s going to be altered.
My destination is all Cs (Fascinating), and every A (Irritating) is a temporary obstacle to getting to a C.
Sticking with something that irritates you is denying the basis of your uniqueness.
As soon as you tell the truth about an irritation, you’ll get a huge amount of energy back because you can then give the activity an expiration date.
So, right now, write down your top irritation. What is it exactly?
Now, write in a death date on it.
And then…
