Minute With Mallon: The Magic of Tiny Wins!
Welcome to Minute with Mallon!
Something I Taught:
A few weeks ago, I was walking through the business of a client I’ve coached for years. I saw a hand-scribbled sign taped above a workstation. It read:
“Get 1% better today.”
That’s it. Not flashy, probably not corporate-approved. Just a quiet reminder written in marker.
But it stopped me in my tracks.
Why?
Because behind every major breakthrough I’ve seen in my career—whether personal or professional—there was a series of tiny, consistent steps. That sign captured the entire strategy:
Be 1% better. Day by day. That’s how it happens.
This reminded me of the concept of kaizen—a Japanese term meaning “continuous improvement.”
The idea is simple: small, consistent improvements lead to massive long-term results.
We’re often waiting on some big moment to change things. But in reality? It’s the baby steps that get us there.
And it’s not just a Japanese manufacturing principle—it should be part of your life’s roadmap.
Pick one of these areas and ask yourself: “What’s the smallest step I could take today that would move me in the right direction?”
● Career
● Spiritual
● Educational
● Financial
● Physical
● Family
● Relational
● Fun
Don’t overthink it. Don’t wait until you have the perfect idea. Just start.
Because starting—especially small—is often the difference between getting stuck and growing.
Take two minutes and decide on the one step now!
One of my clients compared it to a brick mason placing one brick at a time into a wall. Over time, the bricks stack up and become a solid, lasting structure—strong enough to support something meaningful.
And that's how you build a meaningful life! 💪🏻
Something to Ponder:
Where in your life do you need to start taking baby steps again?
Something I Learned:
In several conversations lately I've had the opportunity to discuss with clients the importance of doing little things over time. I often quote Jeff Olson, who said, "Successful people do certain things a certain way, every day!"
In The Slight Edge, Jeff says it best:
“Simple little disciplines, repeated over time, will move the mightiest mountains.”
It’s not about giant leaps. It’s about showing up every day and doing the small things that others ignore or quit doing. Whether you're trying to lead better, lose weight, reconnect with your spouse, grow spiritually, or manage your money—it starts with one intentional action at a time.
