Minute With Mallon: Awesome Out (ii=AIO)

Welcome to Minute with Mallon!

Something I Learned:

We're going to do things a little differently today.  First, I'd like to tell you about something I learned years back, and then with that in mind, go into something I've since taught to many people!

I read a book called The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson for the first time back in February, 2007.  It’s a fantastic read that I've recommended many times over the years.

Jeff struggled in his early years.  He was hungry for success but couldn’t find the right formula to achieve it.  So towards the beginning of the book he describes a process he discovered which got him on the right track.  It's called Simple Daily Disciplines.

Quote:

"As I began examining my successes and failures, what I gradually realized was that the very same activities that had rescued me from failure, that had carried me from the failure line up to the survival line, would also rescue me from average and carry me from the survival line to the success lineif I would just keep doing them.

He named examples. Things like taking a few dollars out of a paycheck and putting it into savings, or doing a few minutes of exercise every day and not skipping it.  Or reading ten minutes of an inspiring, educational, life-changing book every day.

These seem like small things, yet when compounded over time they bring about BIG results.

Something I Taught:

Which brings me to something I love to teach:

ii=AIO

This is a simple little equation that brings about huge results for a leader.

What the equation stands for is:

"information in = Awesome Information Out!"

After reading the Bible and spending a little time with God each morning, I read at least 10 minutes of a good book – something that teaches me valuable principles or information, or that helps me grow in different areas of my life.

Here's what often occurs: After reading, I'll come across a client who has encountered a situation that perfectly aligns with the insights I gained from the book I was reading. I always credit the author, as it's remarkable how frequently their wisdom proves beneficial.

Without continuously seeking new knowledge, leaders risk becoming ineffective through stagnation. Instead, embrace growth to inspire and support those around you.

BTW, some of you may be thinking, “Hang on, I’m not a leader.”  Do you have kids, friends, work colleagues?  You ARE a leader whether you realize it or not, so this will work for you too!

By adopting the "Simple Daily Discipline" of reading at least 10 minutes of a good book every day, you are learning new ideas and perspectives, becoming more interesting, and broadening your understanding of the world.

Give it a try for the next couple of weeks and see what happens!

Something to Ponder
