Minute With Mallon: The Best Leaders Do This!💡

Welcome to Minute with Mallon!

Something I Taught:

This morning I started my day coaching one of the most positive people I know—and I walked away thinking about one sentence he said for the rest of the day.

We've worked together for almost a year, and every conversation leaves me encouraged.

The interesting thing is that his positivity isn't manufactured. It's genuine. Everyone who works with him feels it.

He told me that his leader has empowered him to make decisions with his clients.  Not every decision, but he gives him a lot of latitude.

Out of more than 130 people in his role across the country, he's currently ranked #3.

He told me something I've been thinking about ever since:

"I fix things quickly without asking permission. I find sound solutions in the moment, and that keeps my relationships with customers at an all-time high."

Read that again.

Great leaders don't create dependence.

They create people who exercise good judgment.

They build people who can think, decide, and serve others well without asking permission every five minutes.

Yes, there have to be boundaries. But within those boundaries, give people room to think, decide, and act.

When people are trusted, they usually become more trustworthy.

Whether you're leading employees, volunteers, or your own children, ask yourself:

Have I created a culture where people are afraid of making mistakes...or confident enough to make a difference?

Something to Ponder:

"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."

Mahatma Gandhi

Something I Learned:

Our attention spans are dropping.  (Don't forget I said that! 😉)

In "The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry," John Mark Comer

"Our attention span is dropping with each passing year. In 2000, before the digital revolution, it was twelve seconds, so it’s not exactly like we had a lot of wiggle room. But since then it’s dropped to eight seconds.

To put things in perspective, a goldfish has an attention span of nine seconds.

Yes. That’s right. We’re losing, to goldfish."

I had another point to make...but I forgot what it was. 🤔

Something I Saw:

Blue Hound BBQ in Dillard, GA. The won season #6 of Food Network’s BBQ Brawl!
